Overcoming distraction during teaching and learning in school is very important for any student who desire to succeed in his/her academics. Distraction could be anything that prevents someone from concentrating on a task. It also can come in different ways.
Distraction could be a recurring thought travelling up and down in the mind of a person. It could also be a noise from an electronic gadget. Whatever the source of the distraction may be, finding a means to overcoming such distraction is crucial to achieving success.
The following tips will help you avoid distractions.
1. Identify what get you distracted.
As humans, we all have our area of strength and weaknesses. Finding out what get you distracted in your academics is important. Without understanding what get you distracted, you will keep getting distracted every time. For instance, sitting beside a friend or a colleague who engages in ''underground discussion'' or chatting when a class is ongoing may cause you to be distracted. So, excuse yourself from such a fellow.
2. Turn-off your gadgets whenever you want to study
In this age of technological advancement which has birthed computers, Ipads, Iphones, MP3, MP4, smart phones and other gadgets-all competing for your time-care must be taken to avoid being distracted by these gadgets. When it is time for serious academical work, you must turn-off your phone notifications to be able to concentrate on the task ahead.
3. Remind yourself of your goals.
Having clear goals fuels your passion for the pursuit of the
goals. When our goals are well defined and identified, we generate the needed drive for our goal. A student who desire to succeed must prepare by setting achievable goals that will herald the success desired. Success don't just come on a platter of gold, it comes with a price to pay. To avoid distraction, setting goals must be a priority.
4. Practice focus thinking.
Focus concentration makes us highly productive and it enhances our performance level. When we concentrate on a specific task, we hardly notice distraction because we are locked in a task at the moment. It is important to also avoid cluttering your brain with excessive information that could cause you ''information overload.''
5. Keep deadlines.
Keeping records of time to finish a task or an activity is another thing to constantly do. When you set a deadline for a task, you push yourself up to ensure your achieve the task within the set time.
