In my last post, I shared some of the lessons that can be learnt from the pandemic of Covid-19. In this blog post, I will also share some other lessons that we all must learn from the pandemic. Whether you are black or white, whether you reside in Europe or in the heart of Africa, the lessons are noteworthy.
Here are some of the lessons:
I. The futility of life
A major lesson for us to learn during this period of time is that life is full of vanity. From the record available, the pandemic has killed over 207,000 people across the global world-rich and poor-since it started in Wuhan, China last year. As a people, we must come to the consciousness of the fact that life is brief and that what count is not the riches or accumulated wealth. What actually count is the impact will make and the lives that we touch.
2. The need to show love
In a time like this, when hunger is battling with families and their loved ones, showing genuine love by reaching out to other people must be the priority of everyone of us. We must show love especially to those people that are facing hunger around us.
Two days ago in my area, one of the residents came out from his house and started distributing #2000(about $5) to the people just to support them financially. The person who gave out the financial support isn't a politician, but just an individual who was moved by an act of love to assist the needy in his environment. We all can play our part by assisting others.
3. Responsibility
The need to be responsible as individuals and as a people is another thing that we must learn at a time like this. Responsibility here means that we all have a duty or a part to play towards stopping the pandemic by observing and following strict measures given by healthcare practitioners. A situation whereby people neglect social distancing, self-isolation, and refusal to use protective materials is an act of recklessness that endanger other people's lives.
4. The dominance of God
Virtually all sectors of the world have suffered huge setback economically and financially as a result of the pandemic. Economies of small and big countries have suffered collapse. Industries-big and small are shutting down and employees are losing their job both in Europe, Africa and in other parts of the world. In short, everything has failed. The only thing that we must do is to run to God in prayers. Some people have argued that what has prayer gotten to do with medical science. But the question is this, if medical science is yet to find a panacea to the pandemic, it is important that we lift our hearts to God in prayers to open the inner eyes of health practitioners in order to find the vaccine that can cure this deadly virus.
